I've been looking across the internet to see if there is any way I can get realtime diagnostic information as comprehensively as I can with my OBD equipped car.

I get the impression that it IS technically possible, but no-one knows how.

Does any one know any more about this sort of thing?

The device you seek is called PDU. (forget JDS!!!!!!!)
Jaguar replaced this with WDS and promised to supply software for the OBDI cars but it never happened. They shipped the cables with WDS but never the software so we had to use PDU to communicate with the older cars.

Most Dealers have abandoned PDU or the unit broke and there is little interest in finding someone to repair them (they are from the early '90s). The CDROMS are what seem to fail and they are a strange 2X CDROM SONY OLD TECHNOLOGY device.

I found one on eBay once but I never inquired as to the purchase and shipping of the unit.
