Prizes from the car show
I have to let this out. I cant hardly believe it myself. We were at the British car show in Palatine IL yesterday (Sunday). It was a good large show and the weather was perfect. I had stopped to ask a fellow about the wheel weights on a 1938 Bentley. I had never seen any like them (consciously) (my ignorance showed, but not my car). After talking a bit my wife let slip that we have Jaguar which prompted the fellow to say that if he could find a "gearhead Jag owner," he had some items he wanted Rid Of. I told him he found me, so he took me to another car he had there- a mid 50's Morris Minor pick-up with a canvas canopy on the bed. What he had to dispose of was a Genuine Jaguar front coil spring compressor, a set of 6 New-in-box springs for an xjs or xj, and a 1984 copyright xjs shop manual. He said "Take this stuff, think about what its worth to you and send me a check. I don't care how much you send me." Needless to say I accepted the items and now must arrive at a dollar amount.
I will definitely keep the compressor, and I will attempt to use the springs on the S-type. However I am sure I don't have a use for the shop manual. Ill put a listing in the classifieds to trade for an xj40 manual....
Such good fortune I get for not knowing a wheel weight when I see one!

That is truly awesome, Jerry! It speaks well of the friendliness and likeability of both you and your wife.
I wouldn't dare even think of what that spring compressor must have cost from Jaguar. I think it cost me about $50 to build one from parts sourced mostly from McMaster-Carr, if that helps at all.
Congratulations!
Don

Thanks Larry and Don! I took my chances last winter and followed your suggestions to build my own too when rebuilding the front end of The Moneyfunnel. My homemade one worked but was "exciting." At the time I looked for one online without success. It won't lay idle too long though as I have plans......
