Default Relay?

My fog lights and windshield washer do not work. I do hear clicking in the engine compartment though. I checked the Haynes repair book and I found the relay for the washer pump, cleaned it and reinstalled. I cannot find any relay for the fog-lights except for the fuses that are described and they are good, although I hear a relay or switch click when I try turning them on. Any direction here would be helpful. 1990 VDP

Update on this issue. Silly as it sounds, the windshield washer works....when the car is running! Fogs are still out in the front, back fogs work. The headlight washer surely is not working.

MRTALKRADIO,

I believe there is a relay for the headlamp washer, either on the left or right front of the car. The relays are in clusters of 4 and behind the front headlamps. When you find it and clean up the connections, you might as well take care of the other relays while down there.

Hope this helps

FOG LIGHTS WORK! Finally. What was it? shhhhh the bulbs.
As far as that headlight washer, I checked the grounds, cleaned and sanded the relays. Still no go. But maybe it does it every 5 or 6 pumps from the washer? Do the wipers need to be on? Its probably user error are as most things with me.

When I bought my 1990 XJ6 (XJ40), I asked the previous owner about the front fog lights not working. He said that he hadn't been able to figure it out, but figured they had never been hooked up. Well, when I got the car home, I opened up the fog lights and - yep - no bulbs. Bought some new bulbs from NAPA and they work great!
