ROTTON B**TARD Car Wizard!
I just got dome watching this video on youtube
And at 6:02 in the video he talks about what mid-size Jaguar NOT to buy and I was VERY surprised and unhappy to discover he was talking about XJ40 cars.
Just prior to that he says the mid-size Jaguar to buy is the 1998 -2003 XJ8
He says that Jaguar ruined the styling of the XJ40 cars and that the cars are terrible to diagnose because they have no trouble codes to assist with diagnosing EFI problems.
And this is why he does not recommend them.
I was gnashing my teeth during this so I just had to come over here and let out my frustration.

I agree with some of his assessments, such as how common it is for someone to buy an old Jaguar (or BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc.) that they can just barely afford, and when the inevitable maintenance needs arise they can't afford to pay a professional and don't know how to fix it themselves, so important maintenance and repairs go neglected. You can neglect a lot of things on a Toyota Corolla and drive it to more than 300,000 miles. You can't do that with a Jag (or BMW, M-B, Porsche, Audi, etc.).
His opinions of the XJ40/X300 era of Jags is obviously based on his own aesthetic impressions and apparent ignorance of servicing pre-OBDII cars. Ironically, the Series III sitting right behind him offers even fewer diagnostic aids than an XJ40....
Cheers,
Don
