Does X308 jack work on XJ40?
I need a tire jack for my '90 Sovereign and have been watching that big online auction site for one for some time. They pop up regularly but I'm cheap and looking for the best deal. After all, hate to spend a bunch of money for something I hope to never use. However, if I do have need for a jack, I want the best condition one possible. Jacks for the X308 are much more plentiful, generally look the same, are newer, and can be had for less money, some even including the moulded case (which I'm assuming doesn't fit the XJ40 though I can't help but wonder if I could modify).
My question: Will a jack for a X308 fit the jacking points (inserts) on our XJ40s?

Hi Tony,
I haven't tried an X308 jack on an XJ40, but the X308 monocoque is essentially identical to the XJ40 and the jacking points appear to be the same, so I don't know why an X308 jack wouldn't work. I don't know if there is any reason it wouldn't fit into the stowage cradle behind the spare wheel, but the part numbers for the two jacks are different, so it's possible the base of the X308 jack is larger.
The molded tray for the X308 is designed to sit down in the spare wheel well, which the XJ40 doesn't have.
Sorry I can't give you any more definitive information. Hopefully one of our other members will be able to do so.
Cheers,
Don

I've got both jacks and while both look the same, x308 is slightly larger then xj40, i'm using xj40 jack on my xj8 and it is loose fit so i think it may not fit other way round due to smaller jacking points, but lets hope i'm mistaken
Bridgestone Blizzaks. When you live in Maine, you put snow tires on all the cars though I try not to drive the Jaguar in snow if I can help it. Had the tires on my previous car but didn't include them when I sold it. Mounted them on the wheels from my XJS parts car and definitely prefer the look of the 16" wheel on the XJ40.

As A Minnesnowtan, I'm a firm believer that you just can't beat a good set of snow tires. I found a set of Michelin "X-Ice" tires for the girlfriend's Versa a while back. It looks like it's owned by a boy racer now, but that thing is unstoppable. I don't have a set for the Jag yet, but like yours, it sees only the lightest of winter duty. If it becomes a "real" winter car, a good this will definitely happen.
