Specs and components of 1994 XJ12 audio system
I have a 1994 (manufactured April 1993, no passenger airbag) XJ12 with what appears to have been the higher spec audio system.
Someone replaced the OEM radio at some point, and removed the trunk CD changer as well, although I do have it.
So I'm curious what the specifications were for the system, and what major components were for the original system. For example, was there an external amplifier somewhere, and if so, where, or was the system powered only directly from the head unit.
For example, unlike my X300 XJR6 that has a 6x9 subwoofer in the back deck, there doesn't seem to be any "subwoofer" anywhere that I'm aware of in this car, or am I not looking in the right place?
I'll probably look at returning the audio system back to OEM, so curious about what to look for and what's missing.

No subwoofer in the late cars and the head unit includes the amp. A din cable runs to the back (trunk) and connects the head unit to the CD player.
BTW, you have a 93MY car, IIRC 94MY begins with vin 696460, biggest differences are airbag on passenger side and rear suspension, 94MY has the X300 system - in the pre-94MY models the spring sits on the shock collar not on the wishbone and the wishbones are pressed not cast.
welcome to the 40!

Thanks for the additional detail Larry, that's very helpful.
Well the good news is that this is a relatively simple system And I do still have the DIN cable going to the trunk for the changer just hanging there.
What is the speaker compliment in the 93 and earlier premium audio system?
I know there are four full range speakers (size?) in the lower portion of the doors. Are there separate component tweeters in the back deck and front dash for example?
And yes, I understand about the distinction between actual production versus model years with Jaguars, specifically as those year designations relate to the US versus ROW market.
Although the the features make it a 93 ROW car, and the manufacture date is April 1993, the title as sold and registered in the US for this car has it as a 1994.
So when looking for support, I'll have to consider it a 93, but legally in the US it is a 94 apparently

I do know that late cars don't have speakers (sub) under the rear seat, just the earlier models.
However, given all that, sound system is still pretty nice. (like all things XJ40, good performance when it works )

Apparently I could have answered my own question, but I guess I was just not thinking:

According to the information above, from VIN 667829 to 708757 - CANADA/USA there should be four door speakers, along with two tweeters in the dash, and two tweeters in the rear parcel shelf.
BTW, shocker.... except for the dash tweeters, the door and rear package shelf speakers are still available new and not terribly expensive
