Default Tires for 93 XJ40

I've looked on many online tire shops and have found no 225/65-15s. So does anyone know what other sizes would fit? How much wider or taller could I go before it would rub the fender well? Thanks!

225/60x15 should fit OK....just a tad shorter.

225/70x15 might be OK as well...a bit taller.

Someone who has been there and done that will chime in

Cheers
DD

I would think the 225/60 would be fine the difference is minimal.

Hi mdantonio95,

You can use the aspect ratio calculator at the link below to determine the difference in rolling circumference between 225/65 and 225/60 tires to determine approximately how far off your speedometer will read if you go with the 225/60R15s:

Alternately, you could consider 235/60R15s, which might increase tramlining slightly but probably shouldn't rub anywhere. Or, you could purchase as set of cheap used 16 inch wheels from an X300 and use 225/60-16 tires, which is what I'm running on our '93 (Yokohama Advan S.4., which is an excellent tire on a Jag saloon).

Cheers,

Don

Default 225/70-r15

I put a new set of 225/70-r15 tires on our red car,the ride is good, but they rub on the inside of the wheel wells when going over speed bumps.

In hindsight, should have gone with the 60 series tires instead!

Our champ car calls for 205\70-r15 tires, and the feeling is a lot more sporty than Redd!

Hope this helps,

Jim

I just had a set of Sumitomo 225/60 V-Rated 16 put on my 94 and she's running well. I got them from tirerack.com delivered straight to my front door. Still ended up being cheaper and got a better brand of tires then the local crooks around here were offering.

I also recently had problems getting tyres for my XJ40 as they were metric, but I managed to get a set of wheels off a X300 which were 225-60-16. the old metric ones were 15.5 inch, straight swap and all good and tyres are reasonably cheap

Default Proper tires

Yokohama Advan I am told is one of two tires currently manufactured that will tolerate the lateral force of a car that heavy and last. I originally had a set of Michelin Energy's that the lateral force of the car quickly ground the sidewalls into dust. I have now had the Advans for 4 years and they are terrific. They still look new with almost 20,000 miles on them. As Jeremy Clarkson would say, "these Jaguars are made of Wood, and Metal and Churches". Almost 5000 pounds worth...so make certain you buy shoes for your cat that wont disintegrate one day when going around a corner. Regards, Jeff
