Default transmission issue.

i was given a 91 Vanden Plas by my father that he had owned for a few years. He told me that it had a few issues. I came to find out that when i turn the key in park it doesn't turn on but it will start in neutral, so i think thats a neutral safety switch issue but when i put the car in park it doesn't stop, it travels a few feet, then stops. could it be related to the first issue, or am i gonna have to shell out some money to get this fixed.

If you can get under there (safely and securely) on the housing of the tranny you can see the linkage cable, it is very easy to adjust if that is the problem. You don't need to get into that switch to do what I am explaining to you. It actually sits right before the switch on the outside of the housing. Try that first and see if you can adjust it. If your car is in park, and you see that linkage cable is loose, you have found your issue.

I hope everything works out fine, i wonder if this is a common issue on a 91? I have heard of this problem before also.
