Default Transmission Mount..Is there a kit available?

Hello fellow Jag lovers..
I had my 1990 XJ40 in the shop the other day to have a new carrier bearing installed. When I was under the car with the mechanic he told me that he thinks I need a new rear transmission mount. I pushed up on it and it did seem to have a lot of movement. It moved up and down about an inch or more while not pushing up on it very hard,
I have done a little research on it and I now realise that it is a whole assembly in itself.
My questions are: How much (up & down) play should it have?
What are the main parts I need to rebuild it?
Where is the best place to get the parts?
Is there a rebuild kit available?

Thanks so much guys. I appreciate any help..

Hi Clicks,

At parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com you can view part diagrams and part numbers. Here's the diagram for the automatic transmission mount (which is listed in the engine section - go figure):

You need to replace all of the rubber parts, which, off the top of my head, are parts 3, 7 and 11. If I've forgotten anything, hopefully another member will correct me. You can view the actual part numbers at this link:

Jaguar XJ40 1990 Automatic Transmission Mount Components

Good sources for these parts include our forum sponsors SNG Barratt and Jagbits, as well as rockauto.com, fcpeuro.com, jaguarparts.com, partsgeek.com, etc.

Note that if you are using the Haynes manual, there is an error in the instructions for assembling the transmission mount. Use the part diagram above and you'll get it right.

Cheers,

Don
