Default Transmission problem

Hello Everyone from KY, Need your help with a trans problem. The car was working perfect, then with no prior warning the trans just stopped working as if put in neutral, fluid looks good and full, no light in dash showing. Is there anything I can do to possibly correct or do I need a new trans ? The car is a 1988 JX6 Vanden Plas.

Thanks so much for your help,
Bunchy

Smell fluid to make sure not burnt, should have a sweet hydraulic smell. Check the shift housing on side of tranny and make sure connections are tight. Check wiring around exhaust for any burnt wires. Usually give warning on failure, such as slipping, etc.

Bunchy:
Welcome again! When you move the shift lever, does the corresponding gear light up - i.e. PNRD? I had a problem with my '91 slipping in and out of neutral, and it ended up being flaky rotary switch. But if every indication is that the car is in gear except that you don't have gear, I'm not optimistic...

cheer,
Scott
