Default UK - righthand drive cars

Does anyone know if it is possible to import a righthand drive Jag? I have seen really old RR's that were righthand drive in the states but nothing else.

I have no real idea I would think it all depends on various controls for you area.

But why would you want to, transport, etc. would cost more than the value of the car.

Well it would be fun to drive (albeit after some adjusting to the righthand side)

Family has done it several times....usually with cars older than 25 years which makes the paper work much easier.

My first car in High School was actually a RHD London Taxi FX3 complete with open space for luggage that my best friend used to love riding in....all MG TC's in the US were/are right hand drive.

Had a right hand drive '67 420, Have in the barn a '49 MG TC and a '52 MG-YB. Have a RHD Land Rover Discovery and an XKR right now.

And just to confuse things we have had Left Hand Drive cars in the UK as well.

Check around on the net there is lots of info.

It is not hard to drive either way but to this day after living in the US/UK/EU I still hesitate when I come out of parking lots about which side I should be on.

If I get it wrong the ISMW loudly reminds me.....hahaha.

Just don't go for a hot car that was never imported to the US, Bill Gates couldn't pull it off with a Porsche 959...and he has more money than all of us combined times a 1000.

cheers,

jj

Thank you, jamjax for the positive response, I have my eye on a '94 VDP Damlier or a '96 Hilux Surf (diesel) can't decide.

JC;

Good luck!

Try this with a VDP....

Watch all three:

Top Gear - killing a Toyota Pt 2 - BBC - YouTube

Top Gear - killing a Toyota Pt 3 - BBC - YouTube

Clarkson looks about 20 years older now and it has only been less than five years.

cheers,

Good advice from JJ, check carefully on the date issue, an older car is fairly easy to import but a newer one can be a nightmare.
I have the same issues switching from right to left, while on the road there is plenty to keep you focused on which is the correct side, but after being in a car park where you don't need to worry so much it is easy to go on to autopilot and head to the wrong side.

You need extra long arms at drive thru's, and as for car parks with a machine that you have to put a ticket into in order to lift the barrier.

Learn to run really really fast.

If you are serious there are tons of cheap XJ cars on the UK Auto Trader, even a wonky XJR for around $1000.
