Would you be interested in a used one? I know the new ones are pretty pricey. If so let me know. Also correct me if I am wrong but yours has just a vaccuum line going into the top of it and there is no wiring harness connecting anywhere to it. Is it round with a seam going around the middle of it? Just making sure that I am thinking of the correct one.

I have a 1992 XJ6 and a 1988 Chevy C2500 5.0 and both had the check engine light on for EGR valve fault.
The Chevy had DTC 32
The Jaguar had FF 39
I cleaned the EGR port in the intake manifold of the Jag but still had FF39
I swapped the EGRs from both engines to see if the valves operated and which one would fault first.
That was several years ago and both operate normally because neither check engine light comes on anymore.
I never did swap back because the Chevy is more difficult than the Jag so I just leave them where they are.
The vacuum ports point in different directions but a longer vacuum line works fine.
You can probably find a Chevy EGR for CHEAP and see if that fixes your problem.
You might not have an EGR problem but a clogged port in the intake!!!!!!!!
What FF code do you have?????????????

The Temp sensor 'looks for' a rise in temp when the EGR is commanded 'OPEN". If the port is clogged or the sensor has accumulated carbon and is insulated enough, the ECM will flag a fault for NO RESPONSE from the valve.
The clogged section is in the lower part of the intake just inside (behind) the throttle housing.
Try lifting the EGR vacuum section with your fingers from underneath (A cold engine will keep your fingers from BURNING!!!)
If the engine runs LEAN then the port is open and NOT totally clogged.
I attach a vacuum gauge to the EGR vacuum hose and start the engine. I put the trans in DRIVE and my foot HEAVY on the brake. Hold the throttle pedal open and watch for a VACUUM on the gauge when the revs get to the torque converter stall speed.
If there is vacuum present then that eliminates the EGR control portion of the system.
good luck

Fuel Fault 39
Hi Robhair,
I'm having the same problem with my '93 XJ-6. Let me know if you've installed the new EGR valve and whether it took care of the problem.
I haven't been able to pass the smog inspection, and I've already replaced the the oxygen sensor and temp sensor. Still getting that dreaded FF39!
Before shelling out another $100, I just want to make sure it will do the trick.
