Question Water temperature sensor help requested

Last week, I was replacing the water temperature sensor on my 1990 XJ6. When I removed the electrical connector from the sensor, it was so brittle from heat and age that it broke in two places. Does anyone know of an online source where I can purchase a replacement connector?

Aren't there two temp sensors? One is a single pin and the other is a two pin with larger connector? If I were in your position, I would just go find a wreck somewhere and cut it off. Jaguar was absolutely horrible for providing connectors so the dealer is out. If it is the two pin connector and my memory is not failing me, it is a common two pin bosch connector that some other manufacturers have used. If it is just the single pin, then its just the generic electrical repair spade type female connector.

Default Water temperature sensor help requested

Robert,

We're talking about the temp sensor in the thermostat housing right...? And the connector which connects to the temperature sensor.

Is that connector which is broken/fractured leading into a wiring harness? If it is, I would think you would need to go to your local wrecking yard and see if you can find one there and cut out the old and splice in the replacement.

The Temp sensor part number is the same (DBC3728) for the 3.2,3.6 and 4.0L engines, so I think you could assume the connector would be the same regardless of model you find at the yard.

I doubt you can find a source for a new connector end,....but maybe someone knows of one

Good luck

If all above the above suggestions don't work for you, you can cut off both connectors an solder the wires together.

Hi,

If it is the Temp sender unit (one wire), any good electrical store will do.

If it is the Coolant temp sensor, try these guys

1994 Jaguar XJ6 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Connector - Standard Ignition at Auto Parts Network

They seem to have what you are looking for.

bicol,

I checked out the RockAuto website, but didn't see any coolant sensor connectors listed.

Oddman,
I checked out that website and one of the two listed appears as though it would work. Thanks for the tip.

Is it possible for you to post a pic of the connector you need, I probably have it.

mrtalkradio,

I've attached a photo of the connector. It's a little blurry, but should give you an idea. The service manager at the Jaguar dealership told me that I had to replace the whole engine harness, but I find that hard to believe.

Of course that's what they said you need. But you don't and that's a fact.
