Default Wheels (rims and tires) for 1990 XJ40

Good Day Good People of the Forum,

I am blessed that I have this incredible source of knowledge at my fingertips. Thank you to the great people that make this happen! With that said, I would love to tap into some of that knowledge.

I bought this set of rims for my 1990 XJ40 with 4.0 to replace some old aftermarket rims. I prefer the factory look of the Jaguars. The numbers from the inside of the large center cap are CCC 3524 7J x 15 CH, inside rim X-H.T. T332. I have read so much from so many different posts, and many different references however I am just a little unclear. My goal is to have a factory bone stock Jag with proper rims. I do not know what these rims are officially called from Jaguar.

What are the names of these rims, what year were they offered, and what is the best recommended tire for a luxury road ride, comfort and to fill in the space of the wheel well. Thank you in advance for all your information, I hope I did not repeat another post, could not find any information or pictures of my rims. My first post, so I hope the picture uploads.

Cheers, and live long and prosperous! Regards from beautiful Colorado, USA!

Russell

Welcome Russell.
I dont actually know that those wheels are called, but since you have the part number there- CCC3524, you can look it up at the Jaguar Heritage parts site (parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com) or more directly just google it. That should give you the model year range and any names it may have. You should also be able to see the build date cast in the inside in the shape of a circle with year in the middle and arrows (dots?) pointing to the appropriate numbers for month and day.
By the way, dont forget to do up an intro and please post some pics.

I did a bit of research and found that they seem to be called "Galaxy" wheels. I run 95-96 model year wheels which are 16" so someone else will have to chime in there.

So even with the part number, I still cannot find the proper tires that Jaguar recommends with this rim. I sure would love the 16" rims however I was unable to find any at a reasonable cost. I have read about other people using the best ride combo for both 15" and 16" rims but I just cannot find the thread. Jaguar was not very good about documenting their rim choices over the years. Found info from various websites that sell tires, etc. but there is not 100% consistency and I am just not 100% certain of which tires to choose. Got a pretty good idea, but not 100%. Carry on, have a great day and thanks for the effort.

Hi MinnesotaFreeze,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I'm sorry to join your thread late. Busy days.

Those are very attractive wheels you found for your car!

According to the parts diagrams at parts.jaguarlandroverclassicparts.com, the website of Jaguar Classic, those wheels are called the "Radial:"

If your question is what brand and model of tire Jaguar recommends for this wheel, most Jags of this era shipped with Pirellis. I can't recall the model, but I don't think it is still available anyway. I don't know if any qood-quality all-season tires are still available in the 15-inch rim size, but brands I have enjoyed on my Jaguar saloons include Yokahoma, Continental, and Michelin. The last set of 15-inch tires I put on our '93 before converting to 16-inch X300 Dimple wheels were Sumitomos, cheap and they probably did not meet the required load rating for the heavy car. Note that Jaguar specified a V speed rating for the tires, and even though you will never drive your car at 149mph, the higher speed-rated tires have heavier sidewalls and higher load ratings that were part of the overall package Jaguar's engineers built the ride and handling around.

If your question is what size tire is correct for your 7J X 15-inch wheels, this information may be printed on a label under the center console arm rest lid, or on a label affixed inside the driver's door on the B-pillar.

Cheers,

Don

This has all the wheel/tire answers. But not the part numbers:

Default 1991 XJ6 Sovereign

Hop I’m not being redundant but I don’t see a 91XJ6 Sovereign in the list of wheels and tires. Can anyone tell me if the particular model came with wire wheels?

Recently purchased.

Hi Captain Bob,

The XJ40s are listed on page 5 of the document Richard posted.

As far as I know, no XJ40 was ever equipped with wire wheels from the factory.

Cheers,

Don

Hi. These wheels were available for XJ40 VDP, here in Europe Daimler version for V12 in 1993 (XJ81). If you are willing to send them abroad here is buyer.
