Default Whine on Deceleration 91 XJ40

Hey guys,

So i know i need to replace my right front wheel bearing. I have isolated that noise and will replace it tomorrow However i have this strange whine when decelerating from about 100kph and it stops at about 85kmh. Moving left and right makes no changes in volume or pitch of the sound (which seems to be coming from the rear) any ideas? Thanks

Read through JagTech's posts on this thread lots of good info in there on diagnosing the rear end.

Thanks Army, sounds like ring and pinion misalignment if it's only on deceleration. Needs a diff, I have a used factory rebuilt with 50K miles of service on it if you're in the States.

Thanks Army, that thread was good info but i think Ohio is right. More than likely its the diff. Unfortunately im up in Canada, or i buy that diff off ya. I think im just gonna ignore it LOL atleast for now. We have a Jag only wrecker here might go see what he has. Do you guys think there is any danger if i just keep on crusen with a noisy diff? It just started about a week ago. Thanks for the input

Army was right, it was my thread and I mentioned the same info in there. You won't hurt anything but your ears if you run it that way, except maybe your ego if you have passengers.

Canada isn't far, depending on which province you're in. I sold a transmission to a forum member here from Ontario, we met in Buffalo and away he went. It's 100 lbs. to ship, so UPS can handle it for maybe $50.00, and unlike any fresh rebuilts you won't have to pay to send me back a core. PM me if you're interested.
