Default With or without SLS ??

Can anyone give advice on how to tell if an XJ40/XJ81 has Self Leveling Suspention or not?

My 94MY XJ12 (manuf 4-93) needs rear suspension work- shocks and bushings mainly. I've been trying to figure out if it has SLS or not so I can get the right parts, or maybe convert it. It looks like it has the original shocks, and I can still read the part # "Boge 1-0691-46-055-0 made in germany" if anyone recognizes it from their experience and can tell me.

Thanks. Wes

I have never seen a 1994 Sedan with SLS. They did have the welded lower control arm with adjustable TOE.
I don't remember if the last year for SLS was 1992 or 1993.

Sorry, but are you sure the all 94's did not have it? I was just reading in another thread (Mineral Oil Leak?) someone said that 93 and some 94's, and all 1994 XJ12's still had it- not being argumentative, only trying to learn and getting contradicting info :-( I'm just asking how to identify it myself. Would there be a leveling sensor between the frame and suspension? Or something else to look for? Were the BOGE shocks original, replacement, or were they part of a conversion kit?

You say the 94's have an adjustable toe- when did the factory implement that system, and does it require a special tool to adjust? Keep in mind my US "94" XJ40 V12 was manuf in April 1993, so it's an early for a 94... I know the rear camber is way off (top in), but I'm hoping that is just because the suspension is so dead, lol.

I still have a lot of questions, being new to Jaguars (but immersing myself, lol), and still learning about my car. Being a (somewhat rare) V12 model I prefer to keep it as close to factory original as possible, and the major changes would primarily be with recalls/TSB's.

Thanks. Wes

I just talked with my buddy at the dealer and he remembered a VERY early 1994 XJ12 that had SLS. I guess 1993 was the last COMPLETE year for SLS as only part of 1994 had SLS available with mostly the V12 cars???

The outer fulcrum bolt on the rear lower control arm should have the eccentric for toe adjustment. The welded lower control arms are NLA and Jaguar only sells the cast arms as replacements. This requires the longer springs and different dampers as well as some other conversion parts.

Just convert the rear dampers to the NON SLS and see if the camber improves.
If the camber is still negative, then the thicker shims need to be installed on the stub axle.

Here are old TSBs for the rear suspension on the 1994.
