Hi Don Bryans diagnostic will be a good dtart, would be good in flow chart form with boxes and arrows etc anyway I have no power to pin 30 on the relay base when the ignition is off. I do have power to the fuelpump/lambda fuse, 9 and the fuse seems intact.

Am I correct in saying that if your answer is NO to question 3 you move on to stage 8?

Update, I do have power to pin 30!!!

Jump pin 30 to 87 fuel pump does not run.

ok i jumped pin 30 and 87 base fuel pump relay, and checked for power at the tank, the connection on the outside to the wires running up to the top of the tank. Have twelve volts. This would indicate pump is defective?

Hi mickvic,

Sorry for the late reply but I've been helping my daughter and son-in-law move cross country and their new apartment doesn't have Internet access yet. I'm at my mother-in-law's now but don't have access to my reference materials so I can't answer your question, but it sounds as though you are getting closer to an answer and the pump definitely sounds suspect if you have 12V at the connector that fits to the top of the fuel tank but the pump won't run. The pump is a common Walbro and isn't too expensive (I think I paid about USD $125 at a local O'Reilly Auto Parts store and they were able to get it the next day). There may be other, less expensive brands available, but I figured the first pump lasted close to 20 years, and I only wanted to do the job once, so why not go for the Walbro?

My photo album on fuel pump replacement is not as thorough as I wish, but my son was using the car at college at the time, so I had to do the repair 6 hours from home.

Cheers,

Don
