Default XJ40

As I understand it the term XJ40 was a factory designator for the new XJ6 project that was a planned replacement for the series III XJ6. This became the newXJ6 variant as introduced in 1988 and continued through to 1994... I was under the impression that the XJ40/XJ6 is a four door sedan (Saloon) to you continental types) at least I've never heard of an XJ40 coupe. I often see XJS's lumped in with the XJ40/XJ6, and thought it was a different car altogether withit's own pedigree?

The XJS is its own animal. The Series 2 XJ came in a coupe from 1975 to 1977 with both the six and twelve cylinder options. These were different cars from the XJS, which was also in production during those years.

So then the XJ40 is it's own breed of cat and only ever was a four door sedan. circa 1988-1994? Can't count the rarer XJ6 coupe as it was an earlier series. And in the pure XJ40production run there has never been a 2 door of any kind? Wonder why so many XJS owners want to belong to the XJ40 club. I mean I know the 40's a better car, but really, start your own.

Yes, the XJ40 came in four door only. I would guess they end up here becasue of the similiar years and the XJ40 did come with a v12 in 1993/94 global and here in the states in 1994.
