Hello, i try to start my jaguar xj40 sovereign,model 1988, 3,6 after 2 years sitting on . I poor new fuel 95,
The gear shift on parking, I remove the spark plug and clean them,
the engine crank, but won't start.I use the spray on the air filter, then the engine start for 3 seconds, then stop again. The oil pressure is around 4. I see the fuel light flashing after 8 liter of fuel in the tank.May be the problem is not enough fuel? Or fuel pump ,I don't know, any suggestions?
When you switch on the ignition you should hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds. If no sound, that could indicate there is a problem with the fuel relay or the fuel pump.
You can also open the fuel line in the engine compartment to see if fuel is present in the fuel lines.
Sometimes after sitting the fuel pump can get stuck and by starting the car with a battery charger connected with a higher voltage then just the battery can free up a stuck pump motor
A 50 amp charger would be best as a 10 amp charges at a lower voltage but is still above a fully charged battery of 12.75 volts DC
an example would be say 15 volts for a 50 amp charger vs. 13.5 volts for a 10 amp charger , that's how they work to deliver amps rating
This additional voltage may force the pump free as voltage is a force you want to increase
You can bang on the fuel tank with your fist to jar the fuel pump loose and to run , once running it will work itself free and probably continue with no further problems limited by the service life of the pump motor

In the case of later cars this could work, however the OP's car is an 88 with an external fuel pump.
