Default 1974 XJ6L and engine from a 1990 XJ6

I found myself back to a wall with my fleet of Jaguars XJ6.

by such i am trying to swap parts and ev a motor .
the 1990 European Daimler (in the USA Vanden plas) it has a bad self leveling suspension (cost of 2500$ for repairs.?)
there are kits for sale for 850$ with regular suspension.
by buying a 1990 XJ6 and remove the springs and shocks i think i am ahead of the game.
now what shall i do with the rest of the 1990 XJ6
as i have a 1974 XJ6L with a very slow 16MPG and oily motor.

my question is can I "swap" the motor and transmission from the 1990 XJ6?
what is needed to interface it to the older set up
I will keep as much from the 1974
as I do not need trip computer, and other unnecessary gadgets etc.

we are ready to pull the motor out from the 1990.
what do i need to remove
How do the motor mounts fit
lining up of the driveshaft ?

it will be a project
and i need as much info I can get
anybody done this before or know some which has done so.
I did read there are V8 kits out there
this is not for me!
i like the inline 6
===
my cylinder index stand as per now 58
(garage logic AM 1500 Minneapolis )

regards
Hardy

It has been done by somebody on this forum, a chap in the Netherlands I believe, but it is not an easy project. There is nothing common to both cars, everything is different, except both engines are straight sixes. Unlike V8 "lumping" there are no kits or parts available to make it easier.

I believe you are thinking of Wilfred88's thread.

Thank you all for some good reminders of such a swap of motors.
As my fleet has way to many XJ6 in need of some repairs.

I will use the good motor and transmission of the 1990 with 55k miles and use it in the 1994 XJ6
Pray it will fit and work proper ?! anyone did such a swap and what to look out for.
As for the 1974 XJ6L I will pull that motor out (ICE) and start an electric motor conversion .
Someone done this before?

that is for now
i will have my work cut out for a while and a good way to practicing my early retirement.
regards
Hardy

XJ6 1994 has now a 1990 Engine in place and running. needed some modification as there is an oil-filler pipe. we used all the components from the 1994 engine as the electrical plugs have changed.
have high idle 1200 rpm..
is there an adjustment to lower the idle speed ?

also i battling some electrical gremlins ?!
unrelated to then engine swap!
left front blinker and park light are not working. replaced the whole assembly and light bulbs.
even the ones from the right site.
same goes with the bulb fail box.
checked the fuses in the fuse box on the left drive site removed the box and attempted to solder it .(but it is made so someone is unable to go in there.
2 printed circuit boards?!
ordered another fuse box on eBay!
====
rear left break light not working correct
it flickers at a fixed frequency I can hear the relay in the bulb fail box turning on and off
same changed the box from left to right no change?
it sure has me stumped
hope by find a diagram or someone had the same battles to be able to solve this electrical problem.
====
that is for now.
thanks for any good suggestions
Erhard
