Seems like Rusty wants to stir the Coupe himself.

Explication...The 2nd pict is a XJR egine. I6 super charged with a Getrag 5 speed. If that engine managed to make it into the Coupe it will be a first here in America as far as I know.

Since the XJ coupe market is hotter than LnrB's Jag in a frontal collision this endeavor may also be financially prudent.

If someone told me 6 months ago Donald Trump would be president and 70's Jaguar Lumps would be selling for over 50k...I'd would have said I want what you're smoking!

Nice looking XJC. And yes, a supercharged AJ6 (XJR) engine is coming out of that XJ40.

I believe the AJ16 (being the AJ6 successor) from the X300 can be shoe horned into a Series Jag successfully, so I imagine the very similar AJ6 should too.

So Rusty, tease us a little more, what's the story?

I Love seeing these Coupes come out of the woodwork!
I'm also looking forward to following it's resuscitation into a living, breathing Classic.

Seems to me that the price disparity between two & four door XJ6s is now so significant that it's inevitable that some of the more "creative" body shops are going to try & clone a coupe from a sedan. The original R&D "Mule" that Jaguar developed the coupe from, which now resides in WA, started life as a four door sedan. So it couldn't be too difficult to replicate that. & with the value of donor cars at their lowest ebb, & coupe prices going stratospheric, the incentive to deceive, & the profit available, have never been greater. I guess provenance is everything, before shelling out the big bucks..
In fact I'm starting to have sacrilegious thoughts about my old girl.......

It would be pretty interesting to see. I think we will start to see many more restomods. My kids see 4 door cars as normal and coupes as just weird. I still don't understand how when that changed. I am very happy to have a coupe but I am starting to see 4 doors as less old man than I used to. Of course that could be because I am old now!

This weekend at the Cats in the Garden Jaguar Show There was a very nice Series 2 sedan with Euro bumpers parked right in front of a Coupe. I was smitten. A well done Series 2 sedan with is chrome window surrounds is a really beautiful car too, even when right next to a coupe.

The Sedans do have their virtues, the B pillar adds rigidity and the full frame window surrounds seal better. Nothing better looking than a coupe from this era but that esthetic does come at a price. I think as a practical matter a well done series 2 sedan can have a great look and a better daily driver aspect than a coupe.

Over the years there have been some really well done and perhaps over done coupes and this has inspired many including myself. There may be an opportunity for a very well Series 1 or 2 sedan to make a splash. 4 door coups by the likes of BMW and Mercedes are popular now after seeing a Euro Series 2 sedan right ahead of a coupe, the sedan has a coup-ish quality that is very clean and pleasing to the eye.

Your coupe looks great. When I read Rusty XJC I was thinking the worst! I think the X300 XJR motor would be a great swap into any older six cylinder Jag. I was wondering if a stand alone engine management system like "Megasquirt" could be adapted to run the motor. (Yeah, I subscribe to Hot Rod magazine too!) This looks like a great project. I always preferred coupes. Growing up, my generation associated a four door as driving your Dad's car. Now, I can appreciate them and enjoy driving, and looking at my XJ6L. Good luck and keep the updates coming.

I am absolutely going to Mega-squirt this Engine!

The latest on the engine is that it has been picked up!

I don't know when it will get here

Ouch, have you priced a few different brokers? That seems a steep fee for importing an engine. I imported a car to the states from Canada and the broker and related fees were just under $300. A portion of the fee was related to the value of the item being imported. Perhaps Canada imports are cheaper than Poland.

Wow, big plans for the car. If this is the same one I kept seeing on the Utah Craigslist, it looked clean in the ad. I'll be following!
