Default 1976 XJ 6 or 12

I am looking to purchase a 1976 XJ 6 or 12, 4 door. I am looking for a car with a good body. It doesn't have to run. A bad engine or transmission is ok. All it has to have is a clean title. Thank you for reading and I appreciate any help you can give me.

The I6 and the v12's are very different cars.

I know of a 77 V12 sedan here in NYC...but it is rough, needs a complete restoration has rust, and has the heads off. Seller is asking $4500

Try ebay too.

best to set your sights on a Southern car, they are usually unrusted. Northeast cars are almost always rotted.

dumb question but why a 1976 ?

Sounds like an engine transplant going to happen here.

The 6 would be carbied, so NO fuel return plumbing to the tanks.

The 12 will be EFI, so it will have return lines to the tanks.

The rest of the cars a basically the same, and I mean basically.

Different tacho
Different front springs.
Different front sway bar.
Electrically under the bonnet, not even close.
V12 has oil cooler, 6 no got.
Radiators are different.
Diff ratios are different.
Gear selector "gate" inside the console is different. The V12 could be a choice of 2 (1976 is smack on the change point), the 6 is one trans only.
Lots of other litlle things for obvious engine reasons.

Likely to be a very big project for a 73 XJ, but there may be one or two nice ones still around. Rust is the big enemy of these cars, it can be really devastating and difficult to repair, as not many panels are now available.
