Hey all. I acquired a 1977 XJ6 from an older gentleman who was about to scrap the car. Got it for $400. I was wondering if someone in the group could help me identify a few electrical parts under the hood, and tell me what I have right and what I don't.
Yes, the car is ugly. Comments about the car's appearance are not needed. I just saved it from the scrap yard, after all. If someone has a PDF repair manual or something to help me along, that would also be appreciated.
Also - does anyone know what size bolts hold the bonnet to the hinges?
And before anyone notices from some sort of detail in the pictures, (sigh), yes, the car is a lump. It has a Ford 302 engine with an AOD transmission.
I think the bonnet is either 5/16" or 3/8 UNF. Just about every fastener on the car is fine thread. There is a British Standard for wiring colours, so you can identify what the circuit is for just by the wire colour. A decoder is here: https://www.jcna.com/lucas-wiring-colors-0
I'm not aware of a PDF of the repair manual, Jaguar used to sell them as a DVD. Paper copies are still available, and the Haynes manual isn't too bad. Some are here:
Right ! The single wire fuse is 10A for low beams. The Duel wire fuse is 25 A for high beams. On my American Series 2 XJC, it's mounted on the RH side top of radiator.
Looks like it may have had a cover at some point, which would be good because it is the first place to check if you have a problem. Corrodes badly.
