1983 Series III VDP - Opinions?

I realize these kinds of posts can be a pain...but I am determined to find the RIGHT XJ6 and as Richard Gere liked to say "I don't have no place else to go!" (I think that was his grammar...)
Aaaaanyway -
It's an '83 XJ6 Vanden Plas with 87k miles. It has been in dry climates its entire life and is well documented.
I have not owned a Jaguar yet...but have owned othr British brands over the years.
Does $5,500 seem like a lot for a car like this??
What should I expect to pay for a well maintained and documented example?
Thanks!

That's really a tough question to answer, too many variables. That kind of money should buy a nice Series 3. It's all a give and take. Follow what Aquill said and search the web. You may want to contact your local Jaguar owner's club as well.
I second that emotion, and I might add, $5,500. is too much for a 1983.
A Vanden Plas XJ-6 model is the same car as a Base model XJ-6, the differences are just in the "cosmetic" department, and in any case, somewhat difficult, because the Vanden Plas came with an interior color that is not available nowadays if you needed to replace it.
