1985 XJ 6 speedo
This pretty common when there's a large voltage drop.
Assuming the battery is known good and tested...is it?..... this could very easily come down to nothing more than dirty/loose connections
I'd begin by cleaning the battery cable ends at the battery, cleaning the two "+" voltage junction posts on the firewall , and cleaning the main ground under the car, RH side, about where the engine and transmission come together.
Post back if no joy.
Cheers
