Default 1986 Daimler VDP

Hi All , Can anyone advise the difference between a 1980 Daimler double six and 1986 ,both VDP as far as the 2nd edition hard back drivers handbook as I can buy a 1980 book but unable to find a 1986 edition and as I have not seen the book is there a technical difference in the cars that would make the 1980 book not worthwhile. John.

I have a 1986 Vanden Plas handbook in my website, actually the entire folio. Check it out.
It appears to be the same booklet as the Jaguar XJ-6 4.2 but not the 12 cylinder.

6 years would definitely make a difference, the 1986 and 1987 were the last 6 cylinder models of the XJ and Daimler Series 3, and by then the cars had changed quite a bit in more than one ways so the 1980 book will not relate to your car.

Jose is right. Lots of changes from 1980 to 1986.

Some of the fundamentals would be the same so the 1980 version might be better than nothing......but just barely.

Cheers
DD

1980 = Pre HE and Bosch D Jetronic EFI,m and Opus Ignition, steel cooling fan.
1986 = HE, P Digital EFI, GM HEI Ignition system, Plastic cooling fan.

Same trans in both.

Thats the VERY BASICS of differences.

Different beasts in many, many ways.

Jag Upgrades Home

go to the Parts page. Remember this is not a 12 cylinder folio. However, other than the engine, the rest should be the same.
