Red face 1986 Xj6 Series 3

Hello everyone from down under. I would like to fit a couple of pre-fuel filters to my vehicle. Is the internal diameter of the rubber fuel line 5/16 or 3/8 inch? I want to make sure before I purchase the pre-filters. Thank you

The fuel lines from the tanks to the pump in my 1985 xj6 are 1/2" I.D. The line from the pump to the stock (large) filter is smaller, 5/16" I think. Think about adding 1/4 turn shut-off valves between the tanks and the pre-filters to make any future replacing much cleaner.

Hello Dave. Many thanks for your advice regarding the cut off valves. A very good idea. This will make future pre-filters installations a lot easier. I believe the pre-filters are fitted between each tank and the change over valve. What is the internal diameter of those two rubber hoses from each tank to the change over valve? Gerard.

Gerard, mine are 1/2" I.D., but I think the originals said 12 (12mm) on them. 1/2" fits nicely. In the picture, I have since changed the 1/2" lines to a marine grade low permeability hose and cleaned up the routing from the change-over valve to the pump. I strongly recommend using a low perm. hose(s) in the boot, there will be a gassy smell if you don't.

Dave

Hi Dave. Thank you for your advice. I will replace all fuel lines in the boot with marine grade low perm hose as you suggested. And many thanks for the picture. I found that very helpful. Gerard.

Or WIX 33299.

Tidbit: if you take a WIX fuel filter number and remove the first digit you end up with the NAPA part number

Cheers
