3 way fuel return valve

3 way fuel return valve
1976 XJ12C. Fuel injected, but does not have the 2x solenoid return valves in the wheel arches...... instead it has another 3 way valve in the trunk, just beside the 3 way feed valve.
Question : According to the parts diagrams and the markings on the existing valves, these valves are different....... but I'm wondering why they would be different. Both valves are shot and while I can easily source the 3 way feed valve (as it is common to later cars) I cannot find the 3 way return valve. I'm convinced I can use a feed valve as a return, as long as I make sure it is connected correctly to match up with the feed valve, ie fuel feed from left tank, fuel return to left tank.
Thoughts?

Or replace with three way Pollak valve
My carbed '71 XJ has a three way aftermarket valve from Pollak that does it all and is very small. It has been working perfectly for me since 1992.
I have just purchased their six (6 port) port valve for use with the new S3 tanks with returns lines. I plan to convert to fuel injection in the next month.

Thank you gents. I will buy 2 feed valves and work out which pathway is "on" with no power, and which path is "on" with 12V, and connect the return pipes accordingly. Actually this layout is pretty easy to work with because everything is in trunk, it's all laid out before you, and it's easy to see which lines go where.
Note to self : Take a picture and mark all the lines BEFORE taking anything apart, because no one else has this layout and you'll be on your own if you mess it up :-)
