Ian:

It sure looked intriguing. I checked the site for more detail. Nice price for fresh new stuff.

But, I thought some more. At times good, at others not so much.

There is a major flaw for use in our cars. In effect, it is an open "bucket". The lamp and the socket would be exposed in the wheel.
Rain, snow, ice, debris from the road.

OK in the HD application. In a nacelle, well above the road detritus.

Fix? Yeah, Add a cup. Oh, back to an MGB bucket!!

But, kudos for the idea and link. Thought provoking, for sure.

Brrr, it is cold out there!!! Frost on the pumpkin when Coco and I were out circa 5 AM !

Chores almost done, I think I'll play with my "inside toys".

Carl,\
Thanks for your reply. I do intend to use buckets, but with these I would at least have the headlamp chrome retaining rings and an adjuster. I plan to install these on top of a 7" bucket - once I can source two locally (Ontario).

They arrive on Thursday and I'll keep the forum informed on how if at all they can be utilized.

Oh, by the way, you're in California. For us Northerners, "Cold" is relative, but I spent 10 years in Barbados and in "Winter" it once dropped to 24 degrees - had to put on socks!

Thanks for sharing, headlight upgrade is on my list.
With the cast Al back of most the LED upgrades out there I'm not sure a bucket is required , just the connections to protect?

*Really well* protected. That area really takes a beating, as Carl says

Just received these 7" Hella lamps. They come with a "Position light" in a seperate holder inside the lamp with its own bulb. Wondering if I can turn this extra light into a "Daytime Running Light". Would need to tap into a feed that is live when the engine is running. Was thinking the fuel pump. The feed would trigger a relay turning on the lights. Any thoughts?

I've oft thought of doing the same as I like DRLs.

You're idea of wiring them sounds OK to me; I can't think of any problem resulting, off hand.

Only problem I can see is the brightness of the small bulb. It looks like it has a BA9S base and runs at 4 Watts. Perhaps that will light up a 7" reflector. I've searched the WWW and can find nothing brighter with the same base. I'll keep the forum posted.

For having automatic headlights, I usually use dash battery warning light wire. When the engine starts running and the alternator starts charging, then the headlights turns on. Usually this wire is grounded when the alternator is not working (engine off) and once it starts charging there is +12V on it.

I just got some "LED" BA9S bulbs off Ebay. Pretty bright ! Just search "BA9S LED"
