Default 72 xj6 rear caliper interchangeability?

I am trying to see if it is better to rebuild my calipers or buy new/rebuilt ones. Only problem is, auto part suppliers are saying that up to 73 the calipers run about 190, 74 and on can be picked up for about 60? Did jag redesign them or are all series cars interchangeable?

Somewhere around '74ish, Jaguar went to metric brake pipes. Usually distinquished by a Green coating on the pipes.

Yours will/should be Imperial pipes and fittings.

Anything is always do-able, just depends on your sense of adventure, and ability to adapt.

Well, they definitely went to metric fittings and threads, because I remember reading some cautionary message about fittings in my Series 3 Workshop Manual. The metric fitting could be successfully screwed in to the imperial caliper, but was only on the edge of the threads so any brake application could force it out. However, I think the actual brake pipe remained imperial at 3/16". However there may be a direct metric replacement diameter-wise.

Just placed my order 120 from amazon, for 2 rebuilt calipers. Next I will get a couple feet of 3/8 line, use the old fittings to connect to existing system and new fittings to connect to new caliper. The old fittings used bauble flair, should I switch them to double flair? To rebuild would have cost me more than what I paid, pistons for the calipers are 25 each!

Thanks for the help!
