Welcome to the Forums.

When the beast is sorted, please do an Intro in the New members Area.

OK, terminology here.

I am assuming it is "cranking over" when in the START position, but NOT firing and running on its own. Release the key, it returns to the IGN position, starter motor stops, as does the engine.

After a short start, turn the wheel, and shut it down, as you have stated, it is probably flooded, as they do. Leave it for a few hours, or longer if you have repeatedly tried to start it, let it dry out, maybe even tomorrow. The PreHE HATES that style of start/stop from cold.

I will come back later with more thoughts, just had a better offer from teh wife, see ya.

ok I will go and see if I can work this site out in a min
(do apologise for taking ages to reply)
so let me explain further,
the jag was number 37 of the 279 built here in Australia, when i picked it up it had been sitting in a paddock for 11 and 1/2 years.
got it home and it only needed a little love to get her started, but since then I have replaced parts (as we all have done or are yet to do)

recently i was going through spark plugs I was buying a new set of 12 almost every 2 weeks, I managed to sort that problem enough that I don't have to buy them as often,
i have also redone the injectors, my most recent problem before the current one was my partner used the car and some how, forgot to take the hand break off and drove for about 15-20 min and had damaged that but that's fine (use to the newer cars)

now, as I said in my last message, i am new, but let me explain that I am new to this site i have owned the Jag now for 5 years (no pro but have enough to keep getting through) now after the incident where my partner broke my hand break, I decided to do the break calliper/s, so I started with the drivers side, had my partner come and help me bleed the breaks, then started the Jag (so to start my jag I turn the key 3 times to get the fuel pump to push the fuel through *as it is with most Jags* then start it) my partner started it for me to be able to straighten the wheels, and then I put the tyre back on let the Jag down, and went to take it for a test drive to make sure everything was good (this was about 30-45 min later) got in went to start it and *this is where my problem come in*.

So what happens is that I turn the key *crank over* and it starts and it fires, but then when it is in IGN it just stops.
so yes similar to what you said. but it not fuel (flooding) as I have tested the car once a day and still the same thing.
I have looked into
inverter switch, it is working.
I checked the fuel lines-I know I didn't need to but I wanted to be sure.

sorry if I gave to much info.

NEVER too much info, especially with these V12's.

Now I understand much better.

I strongly suspect the electrical section of the Ignition Switch has died, and this is COMMON now. There is power to the system when in the START position, but as soon as you return to IGN position it drops the power, and the engine dies.

Easily sorted, and I thought (hahaha) I had a PDF on how to do this, but Cyber Space has stolen it,

Wait a while, I will go dig out my "spare" switch in the shed, and retake the snaps, and rewrite that PDF and post it here. Might be later tonight, as its 7C here, and my old bones are not happy.

Done.

The switch was where I "thought" it was, so the kids have not been in there recently.

Any questions ask, or PM me you phone number, and I will talk you through it.
