XJ Series III chase scene from Get Carter
If you've never seen this chase, it's a pretty good one. I just wrote at post for the HP about how I was working in the neighborhood when it was shot, and walked by the wrecked XJ for a few weeks. To be honest? I didn't even know any Series III XJ12s made it to the States... I still can't recall ever seeing one in the wild.
Thanks for posting. Great chase, I had not seen that one. Love the color of the SIII. Not a fan of the chrome wheel arches, but to each their own.
I've read that only 31 or so of the SIII V12 cars were sold in the US, perhaps in late 79 or early 1980. They were sold in Canada however through 1992 and many of those have made it down to the states. I'm helping a friend work on his '87 VDP V12 presently.

Never seen that one either - I guess that's what happens when you avoid bad movies. Fun chase though. Always great to see an XJ in action.
Love the dialog "Get on him", "Stay on him"! Well, duh. I was planning on going the other way but, ok, if you say so!

I actually didn't mind this movie, but then again I like "bad" movies for their general ridiculous entertainment value
As pointed out above, the SIII was indeed available in the US as a V12(XJ12), then disccontinued in the US to be sold in Canada a while longer. Then the XJ12 was back in the XJ40 and sold through 1996 in the X300. That was the end though in the XJ.

Estimates vary, I think the consensus these days is that 41 cars hit the shores of the USA. Remaining USA-spec cars were redirected to Canada before reaching the USA
Jaguar pulled the plug on the XJ12 due to CAFE standards, as the story goes.

I know, ha ha, the dialog was cracking me up!

I can barely stand to watch this.....poor old lady being mistreated like that.....
But you can notice the superior handling of the age-old suspension system on the XJ....
On the chicken game: the Jag should have never chickened out first! She would have run straight through that American piece of crap Sly was driving... lol...

What makes y'all so sure it really was a V12 and not just a "standard" US market XJ6 with a V12 badge on it? Well, I sure hope that was the case, because its bad enough as it is, but nauseating to think a genuine and very rare SIII XJ12 was demolished like this. And it was even a nice color.
I suppose we should look past the demolition and be thankful that another Jag was immortalized on film, especially since Scatcat's point about the original "Get Carter" from the last 60's probably meant they chose to use a Jaguar as a homage to the original...
But still...

Oh, that's easy !

Go to 2:37 in the clip.
As the Jag peels away, fishtailing a bit, it looks like both rear wheels have broken traction....suggesting a limited-slip differential. Limited-slip was standard issue on the V12s and almost non-existent on XJ6s.

I agree, the 'real' Get Carter is a wonderful film....
