Did they by any chance include adjusting your timing chain in the service they did. That is what it very much sounded like to me.

This exact issue just happened to me and I had new hardened valve seats put in along with the valves. It was about 1800 for that work. Two valves were found to be bent. This was due to the car sitting with the PO for many years.
