First major blunder as a Jag owner, took my 85 XJ6 VP through a car wash with the antenna up. Damaged the second section from the top of the mast, so it won't go down all of the way when turned off. The radio still works completely fine, which suggests that I only need to replace the mast. However, looking online, I can only find the full antenna with the motor for my specific model. Is there some substitute I can use from a different model, or do I just need to look harder?

Getting a clean item from a junk-yard might be an idea, or look for similar models that are "stripping for spares", always good to take the the broken one with as a sample.

the old antenna syndrome, for the benefit of having an automatic antenna, they get damaged when going through a car wash with the radio on, or when you get in the car in the garage with a cover on the car and decide to turn the radio on!!

I prefer the old Lucas toggle "spring" switch. You have to manually raise or lower the antenna.

 

I went through 2 before i gave up and just went with a stubby rubber one...
