I am trying to figure out what sensor is just below the air filter can. That is connected to two hoses.

 

Series III XJ6? With 4.2 6-cylinder?

There's a cannister purge valve with two hoses and two wires in that area. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Can you post a picture?

Thank you very much. I believe that could be it. I wasn't around the car when I asked but I will post pic later

DD will have a better answer.

But, if you follow that hose that goes to the wing wall and look in front of the left front wheel, you will find the cannister that the valve purges.. On/off vacuum from the intake. engine eats the fumes...
