'87 XJ6 Tune up
Hello there,
I'm planning to do a tune up for my 1987 Xj6.
I ordered spark plug wires, but they dont seem to be the right ones. Two part stores said they would fit, amazon says they dont. They look different at the distributor side as the actual ones in the car. (Bosch Spark Plug Wire Set 09044)
Those seem to be the right ones if I compare them to the ones in my car: Bosch W0133-1627087 Spark Plug Wire | Auto Parts Warehouse
Is this correct?
I'd also like to replace the valve cover gaskets, but when I inspected the ones I got delivered today, they seem to be out of paper (I guess thats what they originally used in the '87). Should I use them or get ones out of rubber / silicon?
I will also replace distributor cap and rotor, do you guys have any guide / video for this or is it super easy? Stupid questions, but are the ignition wires just stuck in the cap and the ignition coil? I didnt really see a way to get them out.
Thank you for your patience with a Jaguar newbie, Daniel

Not sure if wires are correct, however they are easy to replace, just pull one at a time so you don't mix up the firing order. They simply pull straight out of cap just as they do on the plugs. Match the length as you replace each one. I would replace the wires first into the old cap, then pull the cap with the wires still installed. Replace each wire to the new cap one at a time making sure you plug them in exactly the same spot in new cap (make sure you pay attention to the flat spot on underside of cap matches old one).
As for cover gaskets, they are not even needed. Just a thin bead of hi temp silicone and metal to metal contact after you clean old residue. I would however put new rubber half moon seals in as these dry up and get hard.

The "half moon" seals are at the end of head at gearbox end. I'm sure they have a real name but don't know it. You will see them when you pull cam covers.
Regarding fuel filter, i usually softly pinch off lines going in and out of filter, cut a 1 gallon plastic oil or antifreeze container and put it under the filter. To catch what comes out. When you have put new filter in, just a brief turn of key should be enough to reprime and start
