90 Majestic A/C clutch not engaging
I am not getting the power to the A/C clutch relay that makes the relay close and complete the circuit. I pulled the relay out and can jump the terminals with a paper clip at the respective slots of 30 and 87 to turn the clutch on manually, but there is no power going to 85 or 86 to make the relay close by itself. I already changed the hi/lo switch on the compressor and checked the fuse on the passenger's side for the clutch. I have also tested the relay itself and it works fine. To be sure I even put the horn relay in place of it and it still would not turn the clutch on. My question is what is up the line from the relay, that controls when to apply power to the slots of 85 and 86 of the relay??? Ranco thermostat???? Thermal fuse????
Yes, the Ranco is just ahead of the relay.

Thank you for your reply. I posted in the new members section and I also solved my problem. Interestingly enough it solved itself. After I changed the hi/lo pressure switch and charged the A/C the low side of the pressure switch was good but not the high. It takes time for the pressure to balance out in the lines and all i needed to do was wait until the pressure balanced out on the high side. Once that happened the switch closed and completed the circuit giving me power to the relay switch to also close and complete the circuit. So, hopefully, this can help some others out as well.
