Default '96 XJ6 Control Arm Bushing Problem?

Hi all:

My mother in laws '96 Jag has a clunk coming from the right front wheel area when going over bumps, or stopping.... My experience is that the problem is probably worn control arm bushings. The car has 66K miles, and has been driven very gently it's entire life...but rubber degrades no matter how you drive. Any idea if this sounds like the correct diagnosis, and any idea what it costs to replace the bushings? I live in Norcal, where service costs are high....

Thanks for any and all assistance!

tim

Hi Tim
You are not in the correct part of the forum.
This section is for older Series 1, 2 and 3 XJ6/12 cars which ran from the late 1960s to late 1980s
You should post this request in the X300 section which covers cars from 1994 to 1997.
Cheers

Bill,

Your advice to Tim re a 1996 is correct but your dates are off a bit on the Series 3 production.

The 6 cylinder models ceased production in late 1987 but the 12 cylinder model production continued until 1992.

Yes, I am aware of the V12 continuing until 1992.
In our local Jaguar Drivers Club of Queensland magazine, I wrote about this a few years ago warning V12 owners that they may not qualify for the 30 year historic concessional registration like all of the 6-cylinder cars and to check the date of manufacture.
I was trying to establish the 6-cylinder production era for Tim and in hindsight I muddied the waters including the XJ12.
Cheers

No worries Bill… it’s just that I’m partial to the Series 3 cars and own Number 3 of the 100 ‘92 VDP’s made for Canada. Number 24 was previously my daily driver for 15 years and I previously owned an ’87.

She doesn’t get driven in the winter - her stablemates take on that task - but she gets a bit of fresh air on the driveway regularly just to gets bit of fresh air and warm everything up.

Nice car and I understand why you would not use it in winter.
I have an XJ6 S3 1980 Daimler which I have owned for over 30 years.
I have also owned a S2 XJ 6 at the same time but let it go a year ago to a friend as I was downsizing my Jag fleet.
My son had an XJ6 S3 for a few years, but I was glad he sold it as I seemed to do all the maintenance & repairs.
In my part of the world most car functions are in autumm, winter and spring as summers are too hot.
Cheers
