Unhappy AC Compressor Pivot Bolts

Looking for location of front and rear AC Compressor Pivot bolts. Manual shows location of the rear one but the arrow in the manual seems to point to a nut rather than a bolt and the nut and bolt that its pointing at look like they are integral to the old compressor. I've looked at this compressor all night and can't figure out how the damn thing is mounted.

My A6 has a nut and bolt in both the front and the back.

The bolts are as hard to see as they are to reach. On the front and back there is a triangular (ish) bracket - see this picture from the parts manual. This bolts to the compressor and you will need to reuse it on your new one. The bolt at the bottom is the pivot bolt. There's a nut AND a bolt, both at the front and back.

You asked via PM about the new compressor having bolts around the pulley that interfere with the mounts. I vaguely recall dealing with that but don't remember what I needed to do. Here's a picture of my installation - maybe that will help with seeing where the difference is versus the way your A6 sits:

(Ignore the badly placed green wire - that's temporary - honest!)

You don't have a bracket for the smog pump? I can actually see the hole for the smog pump bracket just behind the open end of the adjusting bolt.

Thanks for the pic. It will at least give me an idea. You flipped the adjusting bolt around.

There's a welded bolt on the smog pump bracket. I'm thinking I can cut that off and move the adjuster inboard, (on the inside of the smog pump bracket) and then remove the outside spacer and that would clear those bolts.

Yeah I removed the air pump a while back and figured there was no need to keep the bracket.

Thanks. I've figured it out and pulled the AC system less the expansion valve. New parts on the way. I think my compressor was okay, but I've got a new one on the way anyway. What fun!
