Welsh sent me the expansion valve on the right. What am I supposed to do with all the extra copper wire? Wrap it in a coil? I'm sorry but it will look like junk. Like I have a miniature moonshine still. Any ideas? Can I cut out the extra and splice?
Yup, just wrap it up as best you can. I've not been able find the exact duplicate of the valve Jaguar used....although it's been years since I last looked.
The valve itself is very generic. They're made with the extra long tube so one part will work on umpteen different kinds of cars; sort of a 'universal fit' type of thing.
Just wrap the tube best you can around a shaft to make it look as close to the old one as possible. Hopefully that's just a blue protector cap in the picture on the right? It should look somewhat like a long bullet on the end. That's a temperature transmitter of sorts. It is REAL important that that temperature transmitter be inserted into a holder that's on the High Pressure side of the evaporator assembly in the fire wall where the TX bolts up to. THEN... you have to use the black goop below to insulate the entire assembly when all tightened up. That transmitter (again for lack of a better word) measures the coolness of the evaporator assembly and is used to through some magic that is beyond me, to turn on and off the A/C clutch.
