Activate Fog Light function
1977 XJC. How do I activate the fog light position on the switch. The information in my vintage Haynes manual is of course of no use. I seem to remember a restraining clip on the switch on US cars but I can’t remove the knob on the swatch
Anyone?
Anyone?
This is for the Series 3 cars but I don't think there is a difference...

As it turns out, whether it’s because it’s a US car, or a Series II, it was very different. Removing the control panel to expose the switch, there’s a cup-like bezel at the base of the switch. At the very bottom is a small slot. Inserting a very tiny flat blade screwdriver, a good push presses in a spring loaded detent that restrains the knob. Once the knob is off, a small C clip on the base of the switch shaft is revealed. ****** that off, and full range of motion of the switch becomes possible. Reverse the process to reinstall the knob. Now just to find the existing wiring under the bonnet.
On the Series III models the fog light wiring is already in place, found (wrapped) at the sides of the radiator panel. Fitting the proper (Cibie Airport 35) lamps is simple with regard to the electrics. Just one wire fore each lamp; they are grounded through the mounting bolts. The Series II system should be basically the same.
