Default Advice

Good morning, on a jaguar xj6 4.2 series 2 with the emission control system on the air filter, if I disconnect the vacuum cable will increase the performance of the car?

Thanks all!!

The vacuum cable that opens or closes the hot air intake to the air filter? My understanding is that this increases the efficiency of the engine when it is cold.

(Just a suggestion: put a description of your problem ("vacuum to air filter" for example) in the subject line other than "advice" or "help". This will make it easier for the forum members to search and also to assist)

hi,
which vacuum cable? there are no vacuum cables other than the cable that compresses the Speed Control Bellows when you set the cruise control ON.

if you disconnect any vacuum HOSES.. you'll end up with problems that you cant inagine.

But regardless, there are no quick or inexpensive tricks to improve the 4.2 engine power by a lot of horses. It is what it is, an engine that started life in 1948.

replace the paper Air Filter with a K&N air filter and you get 1/64th horsepower gain.

replace the stock Y pipe with the European Y pipe that has no catalytic and you gain one more 1/64th horse.

clean the insides out of the catalityc converter below the manifolds and you gain another 1/64th horse.

remove the entire Air Pump System and you get another 1/64th horsepower gain.

Is all this worth the trouble for 4/64ths horsepower gain?

no.

but the engine will breathe better and you get about 5% better fuel economy.

I know. English might not be his first language. Vacuum cable might not be precise but I'm pretty sure he's talking about the hose that runs to the air intake.

Welcome to the Forum, "Essential".

The only thing that comes to mind is to replace the cylinder head by one from a Series 3 car. These later heads had the larger inlet valves as used on the D-type racers. I'm not sure if the camshafts are any different.

yes, I meant the hose that manages the hot air on the air filter! Oook thanks all !! I'll just replace that hose cause it's broken anyway.
