Default air cleaner, how to remove the lid

maybe its me or is there some trick to this.
i need to replace my alternator belt. broke yesterday and thus all other have to come off. i managed to get the tensioners for fan, zircon and alternator. now its time for the pas. to gain acces i need to remove the airliner lid in th lefthand side what ever i i do the damn thing won't come off.
the righthand i left as it showed the same problem to get it off.

what could be the trick?
and why o why did the designers not consult the maintenance team during the development of this car. you can see most of the parts access to them is something different.
