Default AIR FLOW METER rebuild replace options

Hi! What are the options to rebuild or replace the air flow meter? It doesn’t look like any new ones are available, but I see at some point Moss Motors sold rebuilt ones. Are there any options for that currently? EAC3821

There is a great video on YT about refurbing the resistance racetrack which is the main component. I will try to find a link.

I also have a couple spares I pulled off boneyard cars and you are wecome to try them to see if they are better than yours.

What is wrong with yours?

This video is the one I watched and seems pretty complete. Many other videos on operation and fixing if you search YT for "Bosch L-Jetronic aire flow metwr"

I would really try to confirm it really is the AFM itself first. If you think the board is worn in the lower range, you can carefully remove the black cover by loosening the glue with a sharp knife. You cna remove the board from the unit and file down to the top a bit and elongate the screw holes and slightly reposition it so the wiper goes on slightly different track. I have done that. But in the process, its really easy to screw up something else. So you only want to do it if you're 95% certain that you isolated the problem.

Ha ha..Had a good laugh at this phrase...it is the ast thought that usually goes through my head before I dive into a repair!

"But in the process, its really easy to screw up something else."

But I also prefer to screw it up myself before I pay big $ to have someone else screw it up.

Yeah, I was trying to adjust a door lock motor this weekend and the entire window mechanism fell since I didn't realize the screw I loosened was supporting the whole thing. Spent most of the weekend working that problem out. Doh!

I think of the AFM as the prostate of the jaguar. A relatively small part that ages poorly with use and adversely impacts your idle.

I replaced the coolant reservoir tank on my 2008 XJ8 and was so happy it went well... until I went to replace the
engine cover and it fell off my tool box, hit the concrete and exploded into a million pieces. Apparently
16 years of hot/cold cycles over the engine made it a bit brittle - doh!!
