Any experience with Sachs Super Touring shocks?
I am looking for a set of new rear shocks - something that
will give me a firmer ride. I would love to get the
Bilsteins, but I don't think I am willing to pay well over
$500 for a set of 4 rear shocks.
Does anyone have any experience with Sachs Super Touring
shocks? How do they compare with other available
shocks/brands offered for the XJ6? (Bilstein, KYB, Boge,
Monroe, etc.) Will they give me a firm ride?
FWIW, I was working under a BMW M3 last week and noticed
that the OEM shocks were Sachs brand.

Sachs and Boge are related somehow, not sure exactly. I've ordered Boge shocks and rec'd a Sachs box with Boge shocks inside. Nowadays ever-changing corporate parentage and label-engineering make it hard to tell exactly what you're buying, where it was made, etc.
I have no experience with Sachs "Super Touring" shocks. Long story but years ago I bought a set of Boge rear shocks that ended up being a (rather unusual) "sport" or "heavy duty" variant. They were very stiff....probably too much for most tastes. I'm wondering....and that's all it is, wondering....if the Sachs Super touring is the same thing.
OTOH some manufacturers use catchy terms like "sport" and "super touring" even on their standard-issue products.
Hopefully someone who knows something will chime in :-)
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I knew they were related somehow. I get the feeling that maybe they bought the Boge name, etc.
Sachs' parent company is ZF. My experience with ZF products, mostly their truck transmissions, has been outstanding. I was hoping maybe that quality carried over to their shock absorber line.
My car has only been on the road for a few weeks, but it's really loose and I am looking to firm it up. All of the bushings I have inspected are shot - my guess is that they are the originals. I've already replaced some of the bushings, but still have many more to go. Also, at least one of the rear shocks is bad - I can hear it wheezing when I lift up the right side, so it'll be getting shocks as well. The rear is sagging, too - probably the springs.
Yea, my suspension is in really sad shape!
