Default Anyone have their steering column opened up??

Trying to figure out the cruise control on my lump, gm takes all the 12 volt signals whereas the jag uses grounds for the circuits, i have rewired the power/resume button to be hot, but am having hell of a time finding the right wires for the set button.
i need to seperate it from the ground, and hopefully make it hot. I can find two grounds that go into the stalk switch, one is for the high beams, therefore theoretically other should be for cruise, s57 says black and pink out to old cruise module, when i finally found that black and pink, its attached to a white wire coming out of stalk harness, s57 says nothing about white.. and no matter whereni hook my multimeter i cannot get continuity to ground when i push the button. I am thinking my stalk set button is defective, but am still unsure about that white wire... i know that whoever owned this before me had all sort of electrical issues as shown by the numerous wire nuts and splices i have found...

So does andone have their column open enough to see if they also have the black and pink tied to a white? On mine it is a single wire, not part of the left half harness, runs with it though...

I agree that it sounds like the set button is defective...and also agree that the white wire is a mystery.

Normally a solid white wire in key-on, "+" voltage.

On the other hand.....

Often times a component is built with a bundle of wires that are not a color-match for the harness it will be mating to, as is very evident with the cruise control module in the s57 guide.

I'd remove the column shrouds to get a better look at the wiring coming off of the stalk switch. You can then see if a PO has cobbled things up,changed wiring colors, or what not. If everything looks un-tampered with then I'd go with the theory that the set switch simply isn't working.

A few squirts of electrical contact cleaner might bring it back to life....if you can somehow manage to get the spray in the right place

Cheers

Thanks Doug.

I alreadyalrd all shrouds off, had to go further, took wheel off and had to dismantle the turn lever switch, that was fun!!!!
Dound the ground wire feeding set switch has been cut, leaving about 1 inch of wore, not enough to splice to inaide the turn aognal switch, so i managed to the the old ground wire off of the stalk as its only interference fit between the stalk itself and the plastic base. All good now!!!

Not having fun

They really mean it!!!! Once you remove those two screws pay attention, inside there are 3 spring, 4 plastic caps, 1 ball bearing, 1 plastic sleeve and 1 metal contactor that goes in sideways!!!

you can see the new blue wire, that i ran.. entire switch housing is plastic, so no worries about floating grounds, and as you can see, the white wire is from factory!
