Grundy is another option with agreed value. If you shoot them a number and it's too high, they will tell you so. Pictures required. They did not ask for an appraisal.

Allstate, Dave, recommended by the agent husband has been with for Years.
And an old Jag with a pretty paint job cost me $213.08 for 6 months.
Almost half my total insurance bill for the entire fleet.
No assessor has ever laid eyes on the car.
That's with all the Good Driver discounts, fleet discount, whatever discount they can give.
I just pay it and be glad I can.

Originally had my XKR insured with my regular auto insurance policy. They used the original price of the car and a factor to determine coverage. Needless to say, it was in the thousands for an annual premium. Decided to go with Grundy. I set the value I wanted to insure, no mileage restriction, no deductibles, it turned out to be about $250/year. Caveat is that this is a recreationally driven vehicle. Offically not covered as a daily driver, so cannot drive to work or to run errands. Yealy savings is very much worth going this route.

He took lots of pictures and filled in a questionnaire including what value I was requesting. Then he sent it off to the home office to be evaluated by their classic car department. The 87 (all original) came back evaluated at $13k which I felt was great. The 79 (a very nice conversion) came back $8500 which was lower than I ask for but ok. So in a total loss I get a check for that amount plus I have full liability, medical, etc.

Last year I called Hagerty for a quote for the 87. They have policies for every situation including lots of driving as long as it is not your daily driver. They are very efficient and professional and offered coverage at $13k without even looking at it. I thought that was excellent.

But ….in America there are two types of courts. So let’s say your car’s brakes go out and you injure someone. You probably will be charged with breaking a law and have to go to court. Then after that the injured person hires a lawyer and vows to “sue you for every cent you have.” The first thing his lawyer will do is see what you are worth. House, business, car collection, life savings, etc. That’s how much they will sue you for. This is where Umbrella Coverage comes in. So in my case my car and house insurance are tied to my Umbrella Coverage. So if I get sued for something that happened in my car I am protected up to the amount of that umbrella policy.

Hagerty had no way to offer Umbrella Coverage and State Farm only provides that coverage if they also provide the underlying car and home policies. So that’s why I have State Farm stated value value policies on my classic Jaguars.

Jeff
Jeff, that's interesting because I have one car with Hagarty and two boats with GEICO and all are listed and accepted for underlying insurance on my Farmers umbrella policy. State Farms practice borders on restraint of trade.

No! My former employer wrote a lot of 'excess cover". Umbrella is an excess cover.
We were picky as to what carrier was the primary. Skill and policy as to the claims. Ignore or otherwiae mishandle and a claim that should have a value within the primary grows and involves the excess. I worked in that "excess" unit and examined many claims handled by primary insurors. some quite competent. Some so incompeten, we took over. Oddly, they seemed happy to do so!!!! In over their heads...

Huntervision, you are absolutely right. I called Farmers and they said Hagerty is an approved carrier for primary insurance on collector cars as long as I have certain coverage limits. So I can cover my old cars with Hagerty and my modern cars, house, and umbrella with Farmers. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. The next step is to see if they are in the ballpark price wise. I told Farmers I'm not buying based on price but rather based on quality. Thanks again.

I love Hagerty. I have my ‘87 VDP insured for $20k and my ‘02 XJR insured for $15k. Hagerty is always great to work with. Someone backed into my XJR and there was about $5k in damage. His insurance company’s State Farm, wanted to total my car. Hagerty came to the rescue. They took over the claim, recommended a body shop, and got reimbursed from the other insurance company. My car was never totaled thanks to Hagerty. I love them!

Oh, my newer cars and house are with Hartford. I like them too, incidentally.

I have three cars insured by Hagerty, two hot rods and the '76 XJ6c. Another four cars are covered by Acuity along with our house. I had to make sure that the Acuity umbrella policy extended to the Hagerty covered cars. Took some arm twisting, but the excess liabilty coverage from Acuity was extended to the Jag and the hot rods. Hagerty policy is about $500 and change for $60,000 agreed value.
