Default Breather Cap learned wisdom

I like to memorialize stuff I learn while working on the car in case some other poor bast%^d has to do what I did. Maybe save a bit of grief for someone.

So last year I put on a stakedown kit and Went after some oil leaks, In the process I removed the breather cap from the front top of the engine. I think it had an Oetiker clamp on it, but I didn;'t think much and replaced it with a standard Advance Auto Big Worm Gear clamp. Big Mistake!

It turns out that there is a formed slot in the breather cap and the standard size clamp (which I have come to learn is 12mm wide) is too big. It wants to squash the two ridges on either side of the "valley" and hence won't clamp the damn breather cap on tightly enough. So it keeps popping off.

What you need is a 9mm wide "narrow band" clamp of a type Porsche used. Course you can't actually buy one of these at anywhere you can get to on a Saturday afternoon while you are covered in grease. The right size (I think is 40-60mm x 9mm) which costs $.79. at FCP Euro. .. wait for it ....
