Default Cat Converter

I was reading the post for the stakedown kit and learned if the car has the cat converter, it increases heat. So I am thinking, can I just remove the cat?

Legaly, No.
You may do so and get away with it, but that depends on your states inspections, both emissions and visual. But it is a Federal violation to remove it.
There are "Euro downpipes" that mount to the manifold to solve that problem, but then you have the oxygen sensor to contend with.

There are probably two catalytic converters on your car, BTW...

I'm not certain of the effect totally removing the oxygen sensor would have. Quoting from the service manual, "the sensor monitors the oxygen content in the exhaust and sends a proportional signal to the ECU, maintaining close air/fuel ratio control under all operating conditions".

Maybe Doug or JTO will let us know how that would effect the ECU.

Here is a photo of a setup similar to the Euro downpipes. Just a pipe coming off each exhaust manifold, and joining into a single pipe. The ones that I've seen on most modified Federal cars have been machined to accept the oxygen sensor.

Illegal in concept, unethical in application, wreaks havoc as consequence.

There you have it....

BTW, the non Federal cars do have different ECUs, so as JTO says, it may wreak havoc as a result....

OK I am just trying to cool down my car. The temps are running 130+. I live in Phoenix, and it is coming up on summer. I have new anti freeze that was put in for me when I lived in Montana in the winter. Is there a coolant specifically for the desert?
