Default Center Door Locking System

Hi friends

First off, recent bought this XJ6 SeriesIII and love it. Digging into it and learning all the little tips and tricks on this site has been awesome.

While unlocking the car, I hear every door actuator click but only the front drivers / passengers doors unlock. 3rd and 4th doors stay locked.
Reading in the manual they recommend using the 'Centre Door Locking System' to isolate the rear doors....aand thats about as much as they talk about it.

Im assuming mine is on, how do I turn it off to unlock and lock all doors together?

Thanks in advanced

hi,
what year is it?

when you lock or unlock the master lock (the driver's door lock), all four doors will lock or unlock.

the trunk locks too with the driver's door master lock, but it only unlocks with the key.

what it might need is lubrication in the rear door lock linkages, that is usually the reason they do not lock or unlock, lack of lube.

Doug knows the system well and he might show you how to troubleshoot it.

Thanks for the reply Jose

Its an 84'

I suppose it could just use a little lube job. Worth a shot

Thought I was on to something reading about how that system isolates the rear doors...lol
I'll welcome any help I can get

you welcome, mine is 1984 too. There is no way to isolate the front door locks from the rears, the entire system works from the driver's door, the "master" lock/unlock.

you will have to remove the rear door upholstery panels to get lube to the linkages, I suggest you download the Factory Service Manual here, (it's free) and follow the step-by-step instructions.

sorry, I thought it was in the Sticky How To, I just checked and it is not there.

I can send it to you by email, it's a PDF file. Send me a private message with your e-mail.

also I will talk to Jim the moderator about putting it in the How To.

Less lubricant might be one reason. But if oiling didn't help you. Then you might be experiencing the same thing I did with my car, my car rear locks were jammed, I just splashed some grease but none of the trick help it. My car is of 80's as well and found out the car locks had worn off. May be this would be a case with you too, you can have proficient help by any locksmith LA. Try replacing them. Hope you find this helpful.

Interesting!! I'm in that minor "pickle" with my 83 model, in a way.

1. Jose, I will pm you. I would appreciate the PDF on door card removal.
2. Conrad. A bit of humor. Henry Ford and a few other makers made sedans with center doors. One of my "T" friends in the 60's restored one along with a coupe and a dump truck. I bought the bopnes of a "field trap" from him and constructed a "speedster". Tons of fun. so, wondered if Jaguar created a salon with a center door!!!

A. The keys have ceased to open the locks in the front doors from outside. The paddle lock on the driver door energizes the locks with vigor. A jammed or busted link in each is my exterior diagnosis. cure involves door card removal.

B. I think I am confused with my Jeep in that there is a "child lock"
enabling one to lock only the rear doors.
